Pre-orders and official photos are now available for Alphamax’s upcoming figure, Hermaphroditos. This is an original character based on illustrations by the popular artist Ban!, who has provided illustrations for several figures in the past.
Hermaphroditos is 1/6 scale and stands about 25cm tall. She’s a cast-offable figure featuring a number of customisation options. She can be displayed with or without her penis (with additional cloth parts to reflect your choice) as well as a choice of hair which can hide or expose her nipples. The vines wrapping around her body are also optional.
I’m very impressed with Hermaphroditos. I’ve had my eye on her since the initial unpainted prototype photos were revealed, in no small part due to her similarities to Daiki Kougyou’s Maria Bernard figure. I’m also a fan of Ban!’s work, and their style really shows through in the figure’s face. I think the sculpt overall looks excellent, and the paintwork and colours are very appealing. The slight translucency of the cloth and the gradated hair add a lot to a figure that could otherwise appear quite barebones.
I’m also glad to see that the figure is so customisable. I can imagine a lot of people don’t relish the idea of displaying a figure with a visibly erect penis, be it under a cloth or not. Personally, I found the idea of adding a futanari to my collection quite amusing, but I really like that they made the appendage optional. I think she’s priced quite reasonably as well, especially when you consider the optional parts.
Whether or not the penis is in play, I find this to be a very tasteful and artistic piece of work. Compared to a figure like Dva, it’s very reserved and respectable. I’ve seen people make comparisons to classical Greek sculptures (no doubt in part because of her name), and I’d have to agree – there’s something about Hermaphroditos that really stands out. It’s impressive that a figure with a rather large and very erect penis can pull that off.
Overall, I think this is one of the most exciting figures I’ve seen in a while – I’m very pleased with how the prototype has turned out. Hopefully the quality will translate to the full release, because I’ll definitely be ordering this one.
