Team17 and The Game Kitchen have teamed up with 505 Games and ArtPlay for a crossover that sees Miriam from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night arrive in Cvstodia, seeking help from The Penitent One.

The new mission is part of the free ‘Strife and Ruin’ update that launches on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on 18 February.

Tasked with helping Miriam return to her own world, players must complete a series of platforming challenges and collect shards to repair her portal home. Deadly traps will test your precision platforming skills. Those who topple the traps will earn a special reward for their trouble.

The Strife and Ruin update also introduces a Boss Rush Mode, made available after beating the main story. The mode features courses containing a selection of bosses that can be battled by any of the players’ save files. The toughest Penitents can earn medals by setting high scores.

Finally, the update includes a Demake area which pays homage to classic 8-bit platformers. Accessed by finding an arcade cabinet hidden in Cvstodia, this mode provides a linear experience with reimagined retro-styled visuals. The Penitent One must collect five golden skulls and defeat a new boss to claim their rewards.

To wrap up the retro aesthetic, The Game Kitchen has also included several new render modes which can be applied throughout the whole game. These render modes emulate old-fashioned TVs.

Blasphemous is immediately available for purchase on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
