Anubis-Insight-Official-Photos-01

Insight has opened pre-orders for a new figure based on illustrator Houtengeki’s original character, Anubis. You can find the illustration that inspired this figure below.

Made from painted acrylic resin, the figure is 1/4 scale and roughly 280mm tall. Anubis is scheduled to release in November, 2018. You can pre-order her from the Insight webstore from now until September 25th, at a ¥9,800 RRP (tax excluded).

My thoughts: Insight has made another attractive figure, faithfully recreating one of my favourite illustrator’s work. They’ve done a pretty good job at hiding the cut-off legs that they’ve become infamous for lately, too. It’s clear that Insight are trading the legs for scale and detail – Anubis will be quite a large figure. Whether the compromise works is probably a matter of taste, but I think it’s a pretty bold change of pace.

While the sculpting looks excellent here, I do feel as though the paintwork might be a bit too matte on this figure. A soft sheen would look great on Anubis’ dark skin and would emphasise her body more. At the moment the photos almost look more like a 3D render than a finished figure; although I can’t say how well they represent the final product, it’s still a bit off-putting.

Her lack of clothing is a little bit disappointing too, but not too surprising given the reference they’re working from is naked as well. Again, you might be turned off by this – I’m not too prudish about tasteful nudity, but understandably it isn’t for everyone.

Still, I think she looks good, and her price point isn’t bad at all. I’m considering picking this one up at some point. It seems like she’d be fun to take photos of, especially with some water involved. I’ve been curious about Insight’s work for a while, particularly the overall quality of their finished products. Perhaps you’ll see more of Anubis here in the future!
