Pre-order Information
From the adult figure manufacturer Insight, it’s Senran Kagura’s own Yumi! This figure is similar to others by Insight, featuring a thigh-up presentation and real fabric swimwear. The figure itself is 1/4 scale and about 19cm tall, and the bikini is removable.
You can pre-order Yumi from November 30th, 2018 until January 15th, 2019. She has a ¥13,800 RRP (excluding tax) and can be pre-ordered directly through Insight’s online store. She should start popping up on other stores, such as Nippon Yasan, in due time as well. Yumi is scheduled to release at the end of March, 2019.
My Impressions
Out of all the ladies of Senran Kagura, I’ve always been attracted to Yumi most of all. For a while I’ve been looking out for a Yumi figure to pick up for my collection. When Insight announced they would be working on one, my interest was naturally piqued.
The result, I think, is quite nice, though not mind-blowing. Insight’s choice to sacrifice the legs for the sake of a larger scale is, as usual, an interesting and divisive one, but it does make their figures unique. The body sculpt is pleasingly curvy and plump, and the soft paintwork helps to make Yumi’s shape look very appealing. They’ve also done a great job with her face, which is something that’s turned me off other Yumi figures. I like her shy expression a lot!
The fabric bikini is another interesting Insight touch. I like the slight transparency, but the edges of the fabric do seem a bit thick or chunky. This is likely a consequence of the size. It’s not a huge flaw, but it stands out a little.
All that said, I’m thinking of keeping an eye on this one. My calendar for new figures next year is unfortunately frontloaded, so a March 2019 release isn’t ideal. It’s also perhaps a bit pricy for a figure that’s quite simple. Still, it’s probably the most appealing Yumi figure that you can pick up easily right now. Certainly one to consider!
